‘Britney Rears 3’ Marks End of VHS for Hustler

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — VHS is dying a slow death, and for Hustler Video, “Britney Rears 3: Britney Gets Shafted” is the final nail in the format’s coffin. The series’ latest installment will be the last videocassette tape produced by the Larry Flynt-owned production company.

“It’s true, ‘Britney Rears 3’ will be a huge seller and the very last Hustler movie on VHS,” Hustler Video’s Creative Director Drew Rosenfeld said.

While technological advances change the way viewers watch adult movies, Flynt remains a constant in the adult industry, according to veteran director Roy Karch. Karch was one of the first adult directors to shoot on videotape in 1979.

“I remember when there was VHS and Beta, and every time a tape was sold, you asked the buyer would that be VHS or Beta,” Karch said. “You know what else was around then? Larry Flynt. Then Beta died and left behind VHS. You know what else it left? Larry Flynt. Now VHS has died, you know what’s still left? Larry Flynt. God Bless him.”

“Wow, I didn’t even know that they still made VHS tapes,” said porn star Hillary Scott, who plays the role of Rears. “No really, that’s pretty cool that I get to be involved in a trivia question for some porn-loving fan a few years from now.”

“Britney Rears 3” director Will Rider was an early convert to DVD because of the sheer amount of footage that can fit on a single disc without a loss in quality, as opposed to a cumbersome, clunky VHS tape.

“With every new birth, there is a death, and this time VHS is toast,” Rider said. “I love the DVD format because we can cram so much extra footage on it. I mean, ‘Britney Rears 3’ contains more than four hours of new footage including the behind the scenes, and with the bonus disc freebie of ‘Britney Rears 1’ being included in every package, you get eight total hours of footage on two discs. Do you know what that would look like all crammed onto a single VHS tape? It would look like shit.”

“Britney Rears 3” on VHS and DVD arrives in stores on Aug. 29. To order, call David Diamond at (888) 249-3523, or email ddiamond@lfp.com.
